REFLEX

The Psalms remind me of my baby, Father.

My baby’s responses are all reflex.

When he is afraid,

or worried,

or surprised,

or hungry …

He stiffens,

cries out,

throws out his arms,

kicks,

blinks,

screams.

It is uncontrolled,

Seeking—instinctively—to attract my attention.

The Psalmist is the same, Father.

When he is afraid,

or worried,

or surprised,

or angry …

He cries out,

yells,

vents his emotion.

It is uncontrolled,

Seeking—instinctively—to attract your attention.

In the same way that I respond to my baby,

You respond to us—

With understanding and love.

Listen to my prayer, O Lord, and hear my cry for help! When I am in trouble, don't turn away from me! Listen to me, and answer me quickly when I call! (Psalm 102: 1–2, GNT)
