OUT OF SIGHT

I was only gone a moment, Father.

I didn’t even leave the room,

But I was out of his sight

and he cried.

He wants me to be in his range of vision

always.

When he loses sight of me,

he worries,

he thinks he is alone,

he assumes that I have left him.

He will learn that,

even when he cannot see me,

I am still here.

I’m like that with you, Father.

Sometimes it seems I cannot see you,

and I need the reassurance of your presence.

Help me to learn that

even when I cannot see you,

even when you seem far away.

You are still here.

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (Psalm 139: 7–10, NIV)
