She’s been immunised, Father.

She is now selectively protected

From common and high-risk illnesses.

As the needle went in,

She gave me a look that asked

How I could allow this to happen to her,

Flooding me with guilt.

She thought my role was

to protect her from pain,

to protect her from strangers hurting her,

to ensure bad things didn’t happen.

She doesn’t understand that was what I was doing.

A little pain now,

To protect her from illness later,

Illness which could have life changing

or life threatening

I wish I could do more, Father.

I wish I could immunise her

from a range of other evils—

People who could hurt her,

Things that could harm her,

Her own actions which could have life changing

or life threatening

Loving Father,

You placed her in my hands

To raise and protect her.

You love her as much as I do.

So I place her in your hands,

So we can do this

The Lord will guard you; he is by your side to protect you. The sun will not hurt you during the day, nor the moon during the night. The Lord will protect you from all danger; he will keep you safe. He will protect you as you come and go now and forever. (Psalm 121: 5–8, GNT)
