I’m learning her cries, Father.
Because that is how she communicates,
But the cries are not all the same.
I am learning to recognise
when she is hungry,
when she is wet,
when she is lonely,
when she is afraid.
Other people are not attuned to her needs
or to her voice.
To them, she just cries.
But I know her,
I understand her needs.
You’re like that with me, Father.
Prayer is my crying.
You recognise my cry,
and what I am saying.
Am I as attuned to your voice, Father,
As you are attuned to mine?
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (John 10: 27, NIV)
